Every year there are artists who rise up and have a big year. We saw it in 2016 with artists like Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black, and more. So in 2017 we can pretty much expect the same to happen. While we may not be able to accurately predict who will blow up, we can give you a few artists to keep your eyes on as we move throughout the year. Below are six artists that you should watch in 2017.
Derin Falana (@DerinFalana)
Canadian artist Derin Falana is an exceptional talent. Hailing from Brampton, Ontario, he released his Live From Rocky Mountain project which featured the standout record “Vacation.” A heavily slept on artist, Falana is the best pure rapper on the list. His melodic style, vivid storytelling, and in your face energy keeps your ears open at all times. Along with “Vacation”, you should also check out “The Pick Up” provided for you above.
Derrick Milano (@DerrickMilano)
“All these niggas pussy yea they sissy, addicted to the drugs mom say I’m tripping”, that’s how Derrick Milano starts off his buzzing single “Play With It.” The LA rapper is the most interesting artist on the list, because he can tap into both sides of music. While he can give you playful bangers such as “Cellular” and “Dick Down Ya Mom”, he also shows that he can spit as well on songs like the recently released “First Day Out” freestyle.
Also known as Mike We$t, Mikey had a stellar 2016, building his name through various single releases. One of his biggest songs of the year was the K Camp remix of his vibeful cut “Ocean Drive.” The North Carolina artist’s melodic style combined with his excellent production choices keeps his music consistently at high quality. With big publications taking notice of his work, keep your eyes on Mikey in 2017.
Money Man (@BcMoneyMan86)
Atlanta rapper Money Man had a huge emergence in the past year. Releasing three mixtapes, the rapper has gained fans through his authentic nature to go along with his melodic style. While the rapper has had features from Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Shy Glizzy, and more; most of his best records come by himself. His current single “Boss Up” has over 600k views on YouTube and each of his mixtapes, including November’s Black Circle Friday, have over 70k downloads.
Polo Boy Shawty (@1PoloBoy)
Many people may know Polo Boy Shawty for his production, but what they may not know is he is an artist as well. Not only is he an artist, he’s also pretty good at it. Releasing singles throughout 2016, the Chicago talent quickly found his hit record with the Monty featured “Sorry.” Amassing over 380k plays on Soundcloud, he later dropped the remix featuring Fetty Wap which currently has over 300k plays.
North Carolina artist Ron$oCold is on a fire run right now. The rapper has done nothing in 2016 but drop dope music. While he may be lacking on the visuals, he’s currently running it up on Soundcloud with multiple songs over 50k. Some favorites from the rapper include “FAITH”, “Wockheart”, and “Popeye.” Keep your eyes on Ron$oCold as he continues his run in 2017.
Yung Tory (@1YungTory)
Yung Tory is an artist who began to emerge late last year. The Canadian TSF affiliate first began buzzing following the release of his GamerBoomin produced single “Water.” Since its release 3 months ago, the song has earned over 140k plays on both Soundcloud and YouTube respectively. Tory has caught the attention of Chicago rapper Lil Durk, who has brought the artist aboard as the newest member of OTF. He recently released a new single, “Run It Up”, which may be better than his first breakout track.
