This Top 40 list is meant to spotlight and showcase the abundance of talented rappers in the DMV. This list will not include firmly established mainstream acts such as Logic, Wale and Pusha T or people who have been in the underground for years such as Oddisee and X.O. This list is meant to showcase young, emerging talent. The acts chosen on this list were judged on their Impact, consistency, progress, downloads, projects, local and national fandom, shows and festivals, YouTube, Spinrilla and SoundCloud plays as well as overall talent and skill.

3ohBlack @3ohBlack

Whether you’re “Leggin or Nah” 3ohBlack’s impact and substantial growth is impossible to be denied. One of D.C.’s most promising new artist this year, he has consistently released dope singles and fire freestyles and equally dope tapes. Cosigned by Fat Trel as one of the best up and coming DMV rappers, 3oh is definitely making an impact with his music. His slick wit, blunt delivery and raw sound are distinctly D.C. and he’s always “Leggin” and striving for more.

Ant Glizzy @antglizzygg

D.C. artist Ant Glizzy furthered his clout with the release of several dope videos to follow up his mixtapes “Barbara Son” and “Barbara Son 2”. Releasing visuals for “Going Thru It” ft. WillThaRapper and “Forever”. He ended this year strong with the release of a visual for his dark and gritty street mantra “Gun On Me”. This year he has further solidified himself as one of D.C.’s top young guns.

Al Hostile @VampHostile

A solo artist and member of MD/NY collective 8Hundred Al Hostile has had a pretty good year with strong verses on the 8Hundred tape “SAD MOMS, ANGRY GIRLFRIENDS” and “GoodGreatWonderful” a mellow, soulful tape that delivered with uplifters, bangers and chill tunes. It was a solid project where Al delivered on versatility and skill.

Baby Ahk  @_babyahkDDB

One half of DDB, Baby Ahk is a strong storyteller with an impressive flow lately he’s been releasing nothing but fire with standout features on “Nick Cannon” and “Linebacker”. With the release of his album “PLAY” he further solidified himself as a solo artist, showcasing his unique brand of trap.

Big Flock  @BigFlock187

Sadly behind bars at the moment, Big Flock had a PHENOMONAL 2016. Despite not having a radio hit Flock has risen to prominence as one of the most talented and one of the most prolific artist in DMV. He appeared on the excellent Thraxxx posse cut Iggady and delivering some phenomenal tracks (Bruvaz, Linebacker and Plug) in route to the release of his album “The Great Depression”. During the year he killed it at college homecomings, concerts and festivals in the DMV. Flock is a testimony to hard work and great music.
